Christmas coming nearer will naturally make you worry about your credit limit in your credit card with a tons of shopping to do. If you leave the shopping till the last minute, you are likely to end up buying just for the sake of buying and unwanted gifts are an inevitable consequence. Fortunately, there are a number of tips you can use to slash your Christmas shopping bill and avoid the Christmas rush.
Start Early!! It's important to start early, as early as the last summer sales! Start thinking who you need to buy gifts for and a max budget.
Write a Christmas card lists, divide these into people you see that you can give the card to and people you don't that you need to send the card to that way you can work out how many stamps you need and how many cards you need to buy.
If you have cards left over from previous years and don't want to send the same cards out see if you can swap them with another member of your family or friend for their left over last year's Christmas cards.
Write a list of presents you need to buy, add an unisex spare gift for the unexpected, write next to each name a max amount you want to spend.
Decide early where you will host Christmas day, if it is at your own home? Suggest guests bring something to ease the pressures and cost. I.e. dessert, a bottle of wine, snacks. If it is not at your own home do the same and suggest something to bring.
Start Christmas shopping in the summer sales, and always keep an eye out for any sales especially toys, make sure you stock the presents somewhere safe in the house and note down what you have brought and who for, otherwise you will forget.
Really tight for money and have a huge family or lots of friends? I suggest secret Santa of agreed amount.
You can include the children at Christmas with gift buying so they can learn to give instead of always receiving by suggesting a secret Santa gift of £1. I know this is a small amount, but this can be affordable for everyone and it helps to reduce the piles of unwanted gifts, this is also fun for everyone to find a great gift for £1 use your imaginable £1 lottery card, £1 biggest pack of crisps or really useful gifts egg timers, socks etc.
Buy rolls of wrapping paper and ensure this is good quality and the paper is nice and thick so the paper does not rip easily.
Make you own gift tags, you can get the children involved by using last years Christmas cards that was given to you. Find a suitable small picture and either cut a round, square or any shape you like around the picture, hole punch at the top and thread some ribbon through, tie the ribbon into a knot. You will have your own gift tags and you would have reused your old Christmas cards.
Do you have someone that you don't know what you should buy for and have some time, make them cookies, truffles etc. Pack these into nice jars or boxes and decorate them. Everyone appreciates homemade food!
Keep your eye out for offers and deals at Supermarkets that have a long life such as Chocolates, tins of biscuits and wine. These offers tend to start early and they can run out of supply very quickly, so buy early and stock up.
