There has been a dramatic increase in competition and information since the internet revolution began. I look back 3 years ago when I first started with internet marketing, and the thought of using technology to promote my business never crossed my mind.
Now, now, I know what you must be thinking. Where has Judy been? Has she been hiding under a rock? The answer is probably, "YES".
I must confess that I knew a tremendous amount of information regarding the use of technology to deliver information to huge amounts of people. After all, I was a director for Instructional Improvement for a huge public school district in San Antonio, Texas.
Technology was the way of the future, and our state required that we have so many hours of technology training to remain certified. Well, thank God for that, because that experience helped me get way ahead of the game in using the internet for promoting myself and my opportunity. Although, I must admit that I am not by any means an expert or a guru when knowing the "backstage" secrets of the top marketing experts.
However, I have learned that competition is fierce and has changed because of the internet. Just look at all the social networking sites, internet marketing opportunities, and marketers who want you to buy their "secrets" to making money from home. Choosing and investing in a program is like being in a room with a thousand green shirts that all look exactly the same and asking you to choose the BEST one!
Think of the consumer and users of the internet. They go to a search engine, type in what they are looking for, and most of the time click on the first few links that appear on the page. Getting these people to enter your marketing funnel takes some special know how. That's why it is very important to learn the habits of your prospects. Where do they hang out on the internet and in their community? What hobbies do they have? What types of books do they read? Are they health conscious? Do they only buy organic products? Do they even spend time on the internet? These are just a few examples of an endless list.
Some factors that affect competition include but are not limited to:
Competition Pricing- Take a look at eBay and search for a product- I actually received an email from one of my leads that told me he could buy it cheaper on eBay than from our company directly
Reviews and Press Releases- whether they are positive or negative about your company or product, this affects the reader's decisions at their emotional core
Decrease in Attention Span of Our Prospects- people want fast, immediate connections to a solution to their problems without having to dig through too much information
Decrease in Customer Retention Rates- if the customer is not getting the results they are looking for, they will go search for a better opportunity, something cheaper or better products
Increase in Legal Oversight - some companies don't let you prospect on line
If your bucket is leaking just as fast as it is filling up, you'll never make money! I have learned several things since I first began using the internet. (1) I have to think of "Me" as the business. Some people call it "You Inc." (2) I have to generate free leads (3) Market and sell my opportunity-creating leverage(sell automatically) (4) Immunize "me" from competition, and (5) Create multiple streams of income to increase revenue that will pay for my advertising and any campaigns I may be using.
Most importantly, the value of your list (leads) is the quality of the relationship you have with each person on your list. When you have established a great relationship with individuals on your list, then you have earned the right to sell.
So, as you continue on your marketing journey to build your partnerships, continue using multiple methods of inviting interested prospects to join your opportunity. It is still good to use the "belly to belly" strategies with anyone who wants to join you. With all the information products out there, it's important to know that you must be able to offer a solution to their problem. Posture yourself as an expert who they can trust and continually teach them the skills they need to be successful. Whether it is getting rid of their acne, losing weight, building their online business, or driving customers to thier website, never stop teaching them from the heart. I recently had a marketer tell me, "Find them", "Feed them", and "Put the money in the bank."
Until next time, many blessings for success and abundance,
Judy
