I have written this article, designed especially to help all women find what their body shape is. There are 3 basic shapes:
1.The Hourglass- this body shape is probably the most proportioned body type, with wider shoulders and hips and a defined waistline.
2. The Apple- this shape is wider in the shoulders and bust area, and then tapers down through the hips and thighs.
3. The Pear- this is basically the opposite of the Apple shape. Smaller in the shoulders and bust, filling out in the hips and thighs.
Of course not all of our bodies fit into these categories, but they can be useful as a guideline when shopping. In my experience the most crucial time to use these guidelines in when dress shopping, since a dress (usually) covers all the major parts of the body. For example if you are a "pear" you would want to avoid the dresses that accentuate the hips and thighs or dresses that are loose and flouncy on top. You would be most pleased in a cute dress that was "a little" snug on top to make your"assets" pop. Making sure that the bottom is full. This same principle applies to the "apple" shape, yet in reverse. Remember, you want something that flatters the wider parts yet accentuates the smaller parts. "Hourglass" figures can be tricky at times. For example, you most likely have an ample bosom, so you NEED to make sure the girls are secure yet not smashed. Next look at your hips. Is the dress too baggy in this area? Is it way too tight? Make sure you're comfortable. Now the waistline is tricky, because if the bust and hips fit, most likely the waist is a little loose. Right now a really flattering trend for this shape is the Secretary style dresses, this is because they are usually worn with a simple black belt (this is an essential accessory for the hourglass figure.)
Tops are kind of self explanatory. But do remember if you are busty always make sure your top FITS your breasts, everything else can be altered. Jeans need to fit your hips, butt and thighs, but also excentuate your legs. Avoid tapered denim if you are a "pear", instead do a wide leg jean. Avoid flare if you are an "apple", look for a boot cut leg. Avoid tapered or straight leg if your are an "hourglass", instead you would be more flattered in a flare, wideleg or boot cut leg. Hopefully these highlights have been helpful, as you go out and shop.
Ladies, you can look confident and glamorous in designer clothing, just don't be expect to be able to fit into everything out there. If something doesn't fit, that doesn't mean you are abnormal, it just means that cut or style is not made for your body shape. Keep looking and i guarantee you WILL find that perfect fit.
