If you're in charge of planning a corporate outing, then you might have done it lots of times before. If you're not experienced at planning corporate outings, then here's what you should consider.
1. You'll need to choose an activity or event that everyone will like. Just because you like something in particular doesn't mean that everyone will. You might also have to keep in mind your company image too.
2. If you're looking at a specific event such as a sporting event, then you'll need to book and have everyone available at that specific time of year. If you're choosing an event that happens regularly, then you'll need to choose a convenient date that's suitable for all staff.
3. It's a good idea to announce the corporate outing well in advance. This will allow staff to rearrange workloads and meetings, and arrange childcare as necessary.
4. If you send out proper invitations, people know what time the event starts and ends, what to bring, and how they're going to get there and back. If you assume that people will know, then there could be misunderstandings which could spoil people's enjoyment of the day.
5. By having a dress code, or at least saying what you expect staff to wear, you can take the guesswork out of clothing. Certain events will have a mandatory or expected standard of dress, whilst others won't. Remember that you'll be representing your company too.
6. Will it be compulsory for all staff to attend? Depending on the event and the time, it might be necessary for all staff to attend. Alternatively, you might just want to get all available staff, or all from a certain department, together.
7. Because a corporate outing is a significant investment, it's important that it seen to be time and money well spent.
8. Even though you're out with work, and representing your company, it's important that staff have fun and feel that they can let their hair down a bit. If you're a relaxed company then you might not want to choose a more reserved or formal type of event. If you're a formal company, then you might want to choose an event that allows you to relax and have fun with your colleagues.
9. The purpose of a corporate outing is to build up relationships, and to feel valued by the company. It's important that staff can understand the aims, and that they will be able to feel the benefits of it afterwards.
10. Even though you might have a budget in mind, it's important that you don't choose somewhere on cost alone. You'll want to get the right sort of event for your staff and company, rather than choosing somewhere because it's cheap.
Now you know more about how to plan the perfect event, perhaps it's time for you to book your corporate outing.
